My Goals for 2018

So, now that I’m done re-capping 2017 and have finally accepted that Christmas is indeed over, it’s time to look forward to 2018 and set some goals that I’d like to achieve.

Lots of bloggers are denouncing the ‘New Year, New Me’ culture, but I think the start of a new year is as good a time as any to make a commitment to improving your health, happiness and achieving your aspirations!

Here are some of the things that I’d like to achieve in 2018!

Build a blog that I’m proud of

I’ve been working pretty hard on improving the appearance of my blog and the posts that I’ve written. I really lost focus of what I wanted my blog to look and feel like, worrying that no-one would read it if it wasn’t a bright white theme and splattered with Orla Kiely accessories in every post. I need to spend a few quid getting it where I want it to be, but I’m getting a new laptop in the next couple of months, which should help. I’ve started using way better pictures too, and I’m excited to demonstrate more authenticity and write something I can really be proud of.

Increase all of my weightlifting personal bests by 50%

This will be no mean feat, but bring it on! I’ve never been any good at netball or running, and for such a long time, this made me believe that I was crap at anything fitness-related. I can really shift heavy weights though. I’ve been in amazing shape, but took some massive steps backwards because I didn’t increase the intensity of my workouts to match how much fitter I was getting. My gym is next door to my work and I live alone; there’s absolutely no reason that 2018 shouldn’t be my most successful year for lifting.

Reduce my carbon footprint

Right, before anyone comes for me with pitchforks, I’d like to point out that this isn’t really my fault. Currently, I don’t recycle at all. Where I live does not provide me with bins or bags to recycle anything, and I’ve got into trouble in work for bringing my recycling in to get rid of it ethically. I don’t drive, so I can’t get to the nearest recycling bank. However, I’m committed to find ways to re-use what I can and reduce how much plastic I bring into the home.

Eat less meat

I’ll never quit eating meat, I know that, but I also know that the planet cannot sustain the volume of meat we’re eating. It makes me sad that animals are subjected to terrible living conditions just to provide us with more meat than our ancient ancestors needed to lead extremely harsh and physical lives. Also, I’m concerned about the antibiotics and other crap that they pump into livestock to stop it getting ill (that would harm profit margins). I’ll be healthier, and I’ll enjoy being more creative with my food. If we all reduced our meat consumption by 10%, we’d no longer have a meat crisis. How crazy?

Read more books

I love reading, but over the last few years, I’ve done tragically little of it. I did a History degree, and had to read chapters and chapters each week of dry, academic literature. It annhilated my love for books, and it’s not really recovered. It was quite disturbing to me over Christmas to notice how utterly shite my attention span is when it comes to reading. I’ve got a whole pile of lovely new books, and I’m already reading frequently again.

Go abroad

I have been away once in seven years for three nights on a weeny budget. I know, I know, first world problems, right?

I’ve just been so horrifyingly skint for so long that going on holiday just wasn’t an option. However, I’m way more stable now, with less debt and a higher income. If I have to go alone, I’m going on holiday this year. Joey and I are looking at Prague, but a few days lying on a beach in Croatia sounds pretty good, too!

Buy new pissing curtains for my lounge

They’re my home’s greatest shame. I’ve put so much effort into making my home girly and stylish, and these poo-coloured atrocities make me want to weep daily. It’s a tiny thing, but I sit staring at them with bile in my throat everyday, so they’ve got to go. I just need to ensure that I don’t spend my entire rent in IKEA when I’m there next.

I think all that is a good place to start! What are your goals for 2018? Please leave a link to your blog posts in the comments!

Love and strength,

  1. Great post loves! Keep posting about things you want to – not stuff you think people will ‘like’ reading 💗 I’m sometimes guilty of vlogging or writing about stuff that doesn’t interest me as much as others. Being individual is inevitably what people will like about your content 😋 Big love! Hope 2018 is great for you. 😙

    1. Thank you so much for this! I think I got a bit complacent; I was blogging frequently because I enjoy writing for its own sake, but I’d like to create some slightly more complex posts, and this requires effort. I want this page to be a true reflection of me, so I’m gonna be a bit more discerning! I hope you have an ace 2018 too – looking forward to following your adventures! xo

  2. Ahh your goals are fab! You can already be proud of your blog lovely, you are one of the nicest and most authentic people and I love reading everything you write. You are so engaging and genuine. I adore it!
I’m with ya on buying new curtains….. let’s do it, HAHA!! we have BROWN curtains in our bedroom which were there there when we moved in like 6 years ago and they are STILL there. I’m getting my bedroom done so they are fecking finally going. Let’s have a new curtain party when we’re done, haha!
All the best for 2018 lovely lady xx

    1. Thank you so, so much! Aw, I really needed to hear that today :). It means the world to me that you think I’m nice and like my blog! I’ve said it before, but you’re honestly the reason I’m doing this. Before Christmas, I was loving the act of blogging itself so much that I didn’t feel I was being particularly discerning with what I was posting; I’ve got some good ideas and I need to really do a nice job on them!

My curtains are brown, well, brown in the places that they’ve not been bleached by the sun. Came with the house and they’re absolutely HIDEOUS. I bought voile panels to soften the room, but I definitely need some lovely fresh sets – seen some lovely grey ones in IKEA.

I’m made up that you read and comment on my blog – feel like I’ve made a lovely friend, and I hope we get to know each other better in 2018 :). xxx

  3. The goal list looks fabulous chic! I must admit that you are way further along with your goal list then I am! All I have so far is to learn meditation and Learn how to

  4. Ummm, are you me? These are all of my resolutions! Like……all of Them. I must say though Curtains are my least favorite thing to buy! I ended up buying no fewer than 8 sets for my bedroom and decided on thick red velvet about 6 months ago. Last night I was lying in bed thinking “Did I choose the right curtains?” lol I hope you have a better time of it than me!

    1. Ooh, maybe! I left learning to drive off, but I fuckin’ hate driving so the less I think about and write about it, the better.

Curtains are something you just can’t scrimp on, and for a cheap ass like me, that’s a problem. Eight sets 😂?! Holy shit, you poor thing! I only have three windows to worry about, but I’ve already spent an unreasonable amount of time on the IKEA website.

Good luck with smashing all your aims in 2018! xo

  5. I just love reading other peoples goals, it’s super inspiring and you have some amazing goals! Eating less meat/fast food is definitely one thing I want to achieve this year aswell!
    Great post! 💕
